Susi and Robin Lourvanij called in to life “The Polo Escape” nestled in the plains south of Pattaya. Luscious green surrounds the property with the rolling hills in the back-ground has the stables for just under one hundred horses presently in care, ample training grounds and good veterinary facilities. The international sized tournament ground and of course a cozy Club House with intercontinental standard catering facilities, air-conditioned indoors and a spacious verandah outside. As early as the 18th September 2008 the Presidents of the Rotary Clubs Eastern Seaboard and Jomtien Pattaya and the Pattaya International Ladies Club met at Polo Escape and called in to life the Charity Event, which now comes to par on the 12th to 14th February 2010; the Inaugural “The Polo Escape Charity Tournament 2010” at the “Polo Escape” on Route 331; 14 miles South of Pattaya. The event will have the genuine international flair with world class handicapped players (rating of horsemen by their achievements on the polo ground) from Argentina, South Africa, the UK and Australia taking part.
The objective is simple: Let’s raise money for the less fortunate and destitute, that’s why the RCES have been selected to be the Charity Patrons!
The Tournament Chairman is Peter Schlageter, Swiss; President of the Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard (RCES) Pattaya, est. 2004. Peter has traveled literally travelled around the world and did horse-back riding and played Polo on three continents. Peter is a horseman since his very early youth (member of the winning Junior Show jumping Team of Switzerland in his youth); he has sound knowledge of “dressage” and other horse related activities and loves coaching “juniors” and “breaking in” horses for various special events. Peter is an active member of the Horse Shoe Point in Pattaya; he is a Life Member of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Beas River. He attended the Olympic Games 2008 as spectator at most Equestrian disciplines held in Hong Kong. He now lives in retirement with his Hong Kong born wife of just under 40 years Ivy here in Pattaya.
How can you help, have fun and an unforgettable three days horse event?
The RCES is the leading Rotary Club in Pattaya with Charity Obligations in the largest Rotary District Thailand’s, namely 3040. The club is presently involved with a Thai-English language training program through an EU sanctioned CD program. Already the RCES of Pattaya has distributed some 30 sets of CD to schools in and around Pattaya and the District. Another important, very important project is the “Clean Water Project district wide where the RCES and the Rotary Club Jomtien are providing for filtration System, even in some cases drilling wells until water is found for the school kids, elderly and lesser fortunate to help to minimize health matters like Hepatitis. RCES has a special school program, where altogether some 100 school going children obtain free education through funding. We further care for people of all ages who just have the means to pay for a meaning full life, be that that they are handicapped, orphans, sick and very sick and can’t afford medication or minimal medical care. So, please help the RCES to meet their Charity Objectives. !
Family fun week-end – definitely a family day out in the fresh air and very likely sunny – a cloud free blue sky! There will be a children’s’ play-ground, obviously und parental supervision if the kids can’t take care of themselves. The natural environment will give many city kids the opportunity to see, what is the “back-yard” of Pattaya like? Simple as that – wonderful – “wunderbar”. For adults and children alike they will enjoys the thrills and spills of the horses and players, the competition of one of the most ancient, if not the most ancient team event in the history of man-kind. The clattering of the hooves when one and a half tons of horseflesh are moving and neck breaking speeds. Colorful team gear, comfortable leisure ware by the spectators’ and even some fashion in form of a Ladies Hat Competition will be part of the fun.
Equestrian Sports Competition of the very highest will be guaranteed by the quality, skill and horsemanship of players which fly in to the Kingdom to compete here in Pattaya on their “round the world Polo circuit”. They have in their own right the reputation of a Federer, Tiger Woods, Ronaldo, for that matter Eddery or Bolt, all world champions in their own rights.
Catering will be provided for by Jameson’s and personally Kim Fletcher, the Publican of Publican in Pattaya, the Brit’s call such a noble person “My host”.
Soft-drinks, Hot and Cold Beverages, Wine and beer will all made available, either by self service or in the special VIP Tent by waitresses from Kim’s own Pub. There will also be light refreshments, finger-food, Thai dishes made available in all areas at shocking low prices, possibly even a pasta dish or two. The RCES will be operating for their patrons in the VIP Tent a Champagne Bar per the glass, but you can also procure a bottle. The spectators don’t need to bring along their picnic. The spread will be fresh, warm, cool and where needed even ice-cool.
The evening get-together on Saturday, the 13th February will be as spectacular as the Polo in the afternoons. The Jameson’s Carver’s Display with all its trimmings will be the “Piece de resistance”. Salads, Cold Cuts, even smoked salmon and oysters will be on the Buffet for free helpings as long as there is still a demand. Soft-drinks will be with the compliments of the organizers. Beer and Wine lists will be displayed with below market prices. Champagne will be flowing as long as it lasts. The theme of the Night is “Country Western”. A Life-Band will be entertaining you until closing time. Our patrons will not only be celebrating the Polo happening.
Chinese New Year (The year of the Tiger”) begins during and with our Charity Polo Escape Tournament dates and to top this auspicious occasion on the 14th February, the final day is Valentine’s Day. How better can it get! Chinese around the world celebrate the beginning of the year the Tiger – Love Birds all over the world are chirping!
